The Ode II
A fast-paced workshop where will write new work inspired by prompts and writing exercises, share work written in the workshop (optional), and do close readings of a couple of odes from the English Romantic poets, and a few of Pablo Neruda's odes. This workshop focuses on a detailed study of text, and creating a format for your own ode. We will generated new material first and then play with fresh ways to use the ode forms the Romantics and Pablo Neruda used. Though this workshop is designed for teaching form in poetry, it is also about how to approach writing works of praise, and we will discuss tone, rhetorical techniques, and questions these explorations bring when we write such work, regardless of genre. This workshop will be useful to any writer who is interested in exploring traditional and contemporary odes and experimenting with composing works of praise.
