"I FEEL THE EARTH MOVE UNDER MY FEET"

A Monday-Wednesday-Friday Cycle!

Starts Monday October 12, and continues through the week of 19, 26 & November 2, 2020

Our lives have changed drastically. We adjust everyday to a new normal, and our days collapse into one big blur. The very ground beneath our feet is moving. As writers we are constantly trying to make sense of this world and our feelings, and sometimes we need a boost to help us focus, learn something new, and be creative. This workshop is aimed at inspiring you, setting up a routine, and keeping you on your toes! Let’s be alert and articulate and adventurous. Let’s have a clear plan. Let’s develop skills (and a vocabulary) we need as serious writers and readers. Let's send out our work and be heard!

Description:
You will receive something to read each Monday, write new work, and share it with the group on Wednesday. You will then write a brief critical response on each poem/piece submitted and send it to the participant(s) concerned by Friday. (Guidelines will be provided when you sign up). Of course participants are free to submit any work they wish to, not necessarily new work.
Each participant will receive individual written critiques from me.

Prose and poetry. Fiction, CNF, memoir, drama, hybrid forms, experimental work and anything in between welcome! Those who are getting ready to send out their work, more experienced writers, and those exploring writing--all will receive critical feedback. All levels of writers welcome.

Format:
Mondays you will receive a poem/piece, song lyrics, lists of line or words, or even an article, as reading to inspire you and/or to use as a prompt.
By Wednesday night you submit a poem or prose piece to me and to each participant of the workshop. You are free to write/send what you like, (even something you’ve written previously), and experiment with hybrid forms. You may also send a new version of something that you wrote for this workshop and then revised using comments we sent).
One poem, 1-2 pages, single spaced, 12 point, Times New Roman
or prose/drama/hybrid
4-6 pages, double spaced, 12 point, Times New Roman

By Friday night, you send a brief, critical written response to the writer for the poem/piece submitted.

(Participants 4-6 in each group)

Cost: $120

Please email me directly to sign up. If you are not on my mailing list please email me at zilzone8@gmail.com  Please write Creative Writing Workshop in your subject line. Thanks!

A New Workshop!

"Chapbook SOFISTIKASHUN"--a 6 week course, Nov 5, 12, 19, Dec 3, 10 & 17 2020.

--This workshop will be conducted via email and phone

An intensive "bootcamp-style" poetry workshop for four participants only!  Very short(one paragraph/half-page) prose/poetry/ hybrid or experimental writing welcome!

We need to tell our stories, we need to preserve our work, our art, we need to sing and be heard! This is the most urgent need of a writer and artist today. This is a workshop that will help you to create a "sofistikated" and unique work of art that celebrates your voice. This workshop will teach you craft as well as give you the skills/tools to create sophisiticated chapbooks. You will polish your work and produce a finished manuscript that you can send to publishers, or (self) publish for your family and friends, or arrange a pamphlet for a special occasion. Instructions will be provided at each step of the workshop. Arrangement of poems and (narrative) arc will receive primary attention by the instructor. You will receive typed comments, and two half-hour individual coaching sessions (via phone or FaceTime) with the instructor, and a list of publishers/presses where you can submit your manuscript.

Brief Course Description*:

November 5

Week 1: Reading for the week--two chapbooks (in word doc) to read and study. You will examine them for theme/s, style, voice, arrangement, contrast etc. and write short reviews/lists of observations to me and the other participants.

November 12

Week 2:  You will submit brief comments on the chapbooks to me and the other participants. Participant 1 will submit a manuscript of 10-15 poems/pieces (20 pages total) to the group. (And others will do so one by one through the next 3 weeks).

November 19, December 3, 10

Week 3, 4. 5: Each Monday we will read and work on one manuscript, type in comments and suggestions, and send it back to the participant by Friday. Participant 2, 3 and 4, will submit their manuscripts to the group, one per week.   Participant 4 will receive comments by Dec 10, so we will have finished the cycle by that date. I will set up an individual half-hour session with the participant whose manuscript is being critiqued that week.

December 10-17

Week 6: Each participant will submit revised chapbooks to me and to each member of the group. I will set up half-hour meetings with each participant between December 10-15 By the end of this week, all participants will receive final comments from me, and suggestions for submitting their work to publishers/presses/contests.

Cost: $450 (Payable in 2 installments if that is convenient)

* Course description. Some details (or dates)may change or be adapted to the group's needs/time, or due to lower number of participants, or logistics etc, but this is the core of the course that we will follow.

Send an inquiry if you are interested! Reserve your spot if you'd like to sign up!
